Loving the 'unlovable'

To me, the ones we work with every Friday are anything but unlovable. Unfortunately, to many people they are.

For the last 8 months God has allowed us to work with some awesome young people at a home of abandoned young teens. These kids come from devastating home lives and are just searching for someone, anyone, to love them.

We thank God we are able to go each Friday and share the love of Christ with them. The have absolutely nothing to give, earthly speaking. No money, no tithes, no church attendance being promised. Nothing that matters to many so-called Christians.

What they do have is a plethora of talent, heart and desire. Talent to do great things for God. Heart to rise out of the situation they find themselves in and better their lot in life and the desire to see it happen.

In a nutshell, was that not the goal of the Christ/sinner relationship? Is it not still the same? He finds and binds the broken and restores them beyond their original state. Sharpen and stronger, these people... us, are able to use our stories and perceived injustices in life to do mighty things for Him. To truly glorify His name.

I ask you to consider reaching out to the 'unlovable' in your community. There is no pay, nor immediate 'reward'. But the completion of loving your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all the worldly goods you could ever amass.

Praise the Lord for broken vessels.

They indeed hold more water.
